A two-vehicle collision sent three people to a Las Vegas hospital in critical condition on Friday.
Local emergency crews responded to the intersection of Barney Street and Medicine Man Road just after 1 p.m. after witnesses said the driver of an early model Chevy Camaro traveling westbound on Medicine Man struck a white Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling southbound along Barney.
Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Chief Scott Lewis said crews found the Ford pickup resting on its side.
“There was significant damage to both vehicles,” he said. “Two patients were on the ground and both were reported to be unconscious at a certain point. We still had one person who was medically entrapped in the vehicle. I’m deeming all three patients as critical at this time.”
The patients, Lewis said, were transported to Desert View where they were later flown to University Medical Center trauma in Las Vegas.
“We summoned two helicopters but due to the weather conditions we’re experiencing, they were unavailable to us,” Lewis said. “It required us to transport all three from the scene in an expedient manner to Desert View Hospital. We used a triage system to get all three transported in a rapid fashion. We are going to attempt to utilize the flight crew in one of the transports.”
A resident who lives on Medicine Man said he actually heard the impact, while noting the Camaro routinely speeds through the neighborhood.
“For about two months, he’s been racing down the road and he tends to not stop at the stop sign,” he said. “Finally somebody was at the wrong place at the wrong time and he broadsided the truck. He lives right down the road and he constantly flies up and down the street.”
Emergency crews shut down the intersection for several hours as they investigated the crash scene.
The names of those involved have not been released. The crash is still under investigation.
