After temperatures have hung around just at or below normal for this time of year, the mercury is set to rise this weekend.
The National Weather Service said that a high-pressure system moving over the region this weekend will increase high temperatures to above average, soaring as high as 109 degrees Sunday.
“We will be dry through this period,” said Clay Morgan, National Weather Service meteorologist. “A high-pressure system moving in from the west is responsible for the temps.”
High temperatures over the next week will range from 100 today to 109 Sunday, with temperatures decreasing a bit at the beginning of the work week. Highs will range between 106 Monday to 102 on Wednesday.
“Temps will be about five to seven degrees above normal this weekend,” Morgan said.
Although early, weather models suggest a chance that the monsoonal flow could return toward the end of next week.
“We’re looking at a possible moisture push late next week,” Morgan said. “But as of now we’ll have to wait and see.”
Although the peak of the Perseid meteor shower occurred last night, some meteors will still be shooting through the sky tonight and Saturday night. Clear skies are expected, so don’t be surprised to see several meteors streaking above over the next couple of evenings.
