The National Park Service is set to be part of a pair of family-oriented events taking place in the area this weekend.
With the three-day Pahrump Fall Festival kicking off today at Petrack Park, a park ranger from Death Valley National Park will be at a booth at the event all three days. The ranger will be on hand to educate festival-goers on Death Valley, offering an opportunity for Pahrump residents to learn more about the park located in their backyard.
On Saturday, Death Valley is waiving entrance fees to the park to celebrate National Public Lands Day.
National Public Lands Day is an annual event promoting volunteer conservation of public lands. Entrance fees are waived at all national parks and other federally-managed public lands Saturday, including nearby Red Rock Canyon. Other fees, such as campground fees, still apply.
On Sunday, a park ranger will be host a special event in the Furnace Creek Visitor Center at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. about public lands.
Regularly scheduled ranger talks will begin for the fall season on Oct. 23, with a stronger schedule of ranger programs and the popular night sky programs will start in mid-November.
