The Trump administration recently appointed Janice Kolvet as the new state executive director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Nevada Farm Service Agency, officials announced this week.
“…Kolvet will use her leadership experience to oversee (Farm Service Agency) programs in a customer-focused manner to ensure a safe, affordable, abundant and nutritious food supply for consumers,” the department said.
Kolvet has worked for the Farm Service Agency for the past 20 years in various positions within the agency.
She has helped manage farm program delivery at the county office level, as a district director in California and as a program specialist in both Nevada and California state Farm Service Agency offices.
She has also served as a supervisory program specialist in the Production, Emergencies and Compliance Division, Disaster Assistance Section at Farm Service Agency headquarters.
The Farm Service Agency serves farmers, ranchers and agricultural partners through the delivery of effective, efficient agricultural programs.
The agency offers farmers a strong safety net through the administration of farm commodity and disaster programs.
The Farm Service Agency continues to conserve natural resources and also provides credit to agricultural producers who are unable to receive private, commercial credit, including special emphasis on beginning, underserved and women farmers and ranchers.
Under the direction of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, the USDA will always be fact-based and data-driven, with a decision-making mindset that is customer-focused, the department’s announcement said.
Perdue, the department said, leads the USDA with guiding principles that include:
■ maximizing the ability of American agriculture to create jobs, sell foods and fiber, and feed and clothe the world;
■ prioritizing customer service for the taxpayers; to ensure that the food supply is safe and secure;
■ maintaining good stewardship of the natural resources and understanding that Americans live in a global economy where trade is of top importance.
“Secretary Perdue has pledged to be an unapologetic advocate for American agriculture,” the department said in a statement.
Kolvet’s appointment was effective late last month.
