Pahrump and Nye County first responders received a big thank you from the community this month, courtesy of the Pahrump Senior Center.
The facility provided a luncheon for all first responders and their families on Sept. 19.
Senior Center Site Manager Anne Harris said board members wanted to show their appreciation for first responders who put their lives on the line each day.
“This was our first recognition luncheon honoring our first responders in Pahrump and Nye County,” she said. “We had a fantastic turnout and everyone seemed to have a great time meeting with the seniors.”
Fire Chief Scott Lewis said he and the entire department were “very appreciative” of the gesture.
“I want to thank the senior center staff for thinking of us,” he said. “It was a great event.”
Harris, meanwhile noted that the center is looking to possibly make the event an annual one.
“We will try to have one again next year to again show our appreciation for all they do for our town and our citizens,” she said. “The entire Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue personnel turned out in droves.”
On the menu were gourmet hot dogs, drinks and the center’s award-winning chili, which took the top prize at the annual sanctioned chili cook-off for three years straight.
“Some responders brought their families and I personally want to give thanks to the kitchen staff, the volunteers, the board of directors and to those from different businesses who sent their employees over to help make this event a success.”
The senior center also held several raffles for the first responders.
Firefighter Noel Gibson walked away with a diamond membership to the Front Sight Firearms Training facility.
