One person was arrested and another taken to the local hospital following a hit and run accident at the intersection of highways 160 and 372 last week.
Nye County Sheriff’s deputies, Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Services and the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to the area around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a three-vehicle accident with possible injuries.
When police arrived on scene, witnesses advised officers a white van had allegedly fled from the intersection after running into one of the other vehicles.
PVFRS evaluated the occupants of the two remaining vehicles still on scene and one person was later transported to Desert View Hospital for further care. No further injuries were reported.
A short time later police located the suspect van on Crawford Way. When an officer made contact with two males inside the vehicle, they allegedly admitted to being involved in the accident.
The driver, identified as Dmitrik Guajardo, 40, allegedly told police he had consumed two 24-ounce beers earlier that day. Asked to submit to a series of field sobriety tests, he did and allegedly failed them.
According to a declaration of arrest in the case, police said Guajardo became more and more uncooperative with police as the sobriety tests went on.
Guajardo was subsequently arrested for DUI, duty to stop at scene of accident involving property damage and driving with license suspended or revoked and transported to the Nye County Detention Center to be booked into custody.
Once at the jail, Guajardo was read the implied consent warning, at which time he asked deputies to get a search warrant if they wished to take a sample of his blood as evidence.
Officers obtained a warrant and a phlebotomist was called to the jail to collect a sample of the man’s blood.
Guajardo has since been released from custody.
