Officials at Desert View Hospital are urging parents to get their children off to a great start for the upcoming school year by attending the annual Back to School Fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
The event is hosted by Desert View Hospital, in partnership with Nye Communities Coalition.
Desert View Hospital is at 360 Lola Lane, between Basin Avenue and Wilson Road.
All Nye County students entering grades K-12 are invited to participate.
“We’re excited to once again host this event, which benefits our community’s youngest members,” said Susan Davila, CEO of Desert View Hospital. “I love seeing the community come together to make it a success, and appreciate all the support from Nye Communities Coalition with planning, setup, tear-down and everything in between.”
Services provided during the event include free sports physicals courtesy of Healthcare Partners.
Immunizations come by way of Pahrump’s Community Health Nurse.
Freebies aplenty
“There will be free eye screenings by Nevada Eye and Pahrump Walmart Vision Center,” a news release noted. Free dental screenings are provided by Dr. Richard Featherstone and Dr. Dawn Green, while Ryan Langson of Keller Hearing will perform free hearing screenings.”
Additionally, free skin checks are provided by Advanced Dermatologists and Cosmetic Surgery.
Pahrump’s VFW Post 10054 is hosting a Teddy Bear Clinic, where children are urged to bring their favorite stuffed animal.
Also provided are free backpacks, lunch bags and school supplies while the items last.
Dress accordingly
The Back to School Fair will be hosted both inside and outside the hospital.
Visitors are advised to wear sunscreen, a hat, and bring water, since activities take place inside and outside the hospital.
Water will also be provided.
Parents must accompany children for all screenings, sports physicals and activities, as signed paperwork is required for immunizations and screenings.
Nye Communities Coalition’s Tamalyn Taylor will be able to provide answers for parents on the issue of staying fit.
“My focus is on food nutrition and education, as well as promoting physical activities,” Taylor said. “We usually get quite a big crowd. We check you in, and there’s over 25 vendors that parents and students can visit with. They will provide just about anything you might need to get your child ready for the upcoming school year. This is a very popular event among parents in the community, and it’s entirely free.”
