Incumbent Donna Cox won the contentious Nye County Commission District III race with 258 votes, defeating top contender businessman Leo Blundo, who received 217 votes. Three other candidates finished well behind.
The winner will not face a challenger in November, because no Democrat or third-party candidate filed in the district.
District I incumbent Lorinda Wichman easily earned her third term with a victory in the three-person Republican primary. She captured 322 votes, well ahead of the 182 votes received by Amargosa Valley resident Scott Mattox. Like Cox, Wichman will not face a November challenger.
District II winner John Koenig will face Democrat Harley Kulkin on Nov. 8. Koenig, chairman of the Pahrump Regional Planning Commission, defeated former Pahrump Town Board member Amy Riches and three other candidates. Koenig received 362 votes to Amy Riches 114.
“I’m overjoyed and I’m glad that the people are picking the best person for the job,” Koenig said Tuesday night. “I have the experience, I have the background and I will be ready to go day one. Now the only thing left to do is to beat the Democratic candidate in November.”
The winner between Koenig and Kulkin will take over the seat being left open by Frank Carbone, who is not seeking a second term.
