Richard “Dick” Gardner, Kelly Carroll and Crystal Taylor were reappointed to two-year terms on the Beatty town advisory board by Nye County Commissioners Tuesday.
The Beatty town board recommended submitting the names to the county commission, they were the only residents to express an interest.
Gardner was appointed to the Beatty town board in January 2011 and has been chairman since 2012, he serves on a desert tortoise habitat committee. He is also vice chairman of the Nye County Board of Equalization and is quartermaster for the Beatty Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
Gardner said during his term the town was awarded a National Park Service grant to construct a town square and the board completed a Beatty Area Plan.
Carroll was also appointed to the Beatty town board in 2011, she is an active member of the Beatty Volunteer Fire Department during her 20 years in Beatty.
Taylor was appointed to the Beatty town board in October 2011 to fill the term of a member who resigned.
Both Carroll and Taylor mentioned they wanted to be reappointed to complete some community projects.
• Joseph Hendrick and Kenneth House were reappointed to two-year terms on the Gabbs town advisory board. Hendrick polled the most votes, 32, in an election for Gabbs town board chairman last month. A local businessman, Hendrick has been on the Gabbs town advisory board for two years, he was formerly on the zoning board of appeals. He is treasurer of the Moose Lodge and a prelate and bar manager for VFW Post 2633.
“Because of economic conditions Gabbs has lost population. I don’t plan to let it dry up and die. We need positive attitudes and direction,” Hendrick wrote in his application.
House is a former Livermore, Calif. resident, who was employed for 32 years with the California State University system as an equipment operator and maintenance mechanic. He is a first responder in the ambulance and fire department, who is serving his second term on the Gabbs town board.
Scott Zaval and Clyde Gentry also applied unsuccessfully for the board.
In her motion making the appointments, County Commissioner Lorinda Wichman noted Hendrick and House “served with dedication and poise in these difficult times.”
Two Gabbs town board members were removed from the board by county commissioners last June after failing to respond to the district attorney who wanted to discuss the Nevada Open Meetings Law. Ray Dummar and Melissa Stark were appointed to replace John Meyer and Calvin Higbee.

• Cindy Kaminski of Tonopah was reappointed to the Nye County Debt Management Commission.
