With no other business before the Nye County Water District, a meeting was held on Monday, April 13 solely to rescind, amend and approve minutes of a previous meeting.
Water District Chairman John MacLaughlin said the move was “self-corrective action” due to an error he made in skipping public comment and proceeding to the regular meeting at the Feb. 23 meeting.
“It was my bad,” he said, “I did it out of order.”
Other amendments were made, including changing an inaccurate statement attributed to board member Greg Dann which reflected that Nevada’s governor would be willing to meet with Dann and the state’s Division of Water Resource staff. That statement was not accurate, Dann said, “He hasn’t been wanting to talk with Nye County about water at all.”
Dann then rebuffed county staff for denied access to a video recording of the Feb. 23 meeting over the weekend.
“It is inappropriate that the video is not able to be reviewed,” he complained.
County staff confirmed that the Granicus video system, which records public meetings that can later be viewed on the Nye County website, may have been undergoing routine maintenance over the weekend.
Nye County Commission Chairwoman Lorinda Wichman said that there have been “a lot” of problems with the video recording system lately. However, she clarified, the video recordings are provided as a courtesy to the public, and not required by Open Meetings Law.
The Water District Clerk takes minutes of each public meeting, which are the official record of the meetings, not the video recording, Wichman said.
The video recording, Dann disputed, was a viable way to check the accuracy of the minutes. Wichman said county personnel are attempting to resolve the issues with the recording system.
