Police arrested a couple over the weekend after the pair allegedly allowed two juvenile males to smoke marijuana in their presence.
According to an arrest report, on Saturday a Nye County Sheriff’s deputy was asked to investigate a report of a missing or runaway juvenile.
The boy’s mother told the officer she allowed her 13-year-old son to go over to a friend’s home and gave both boys her cell phone number to call her when she needed to pick her child up. The woman said neither of the boys called her and she couldn’t find anyone to help her locate her son.
Police then relocated to the friend’s home in the 1100 block of Deerskin Road to attempt to locate the missing juvenile.
When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact with the residents at the front door. When no one answered, deputies walked over to a trailer sitting on the west side of the property and as they approached were allegedly hit with an overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from the residence’s garage.
Through a window, one of the officers allegedly spotted a juvenile male matching the description of the missing 13-year-old in the garage.
Officers were then able to locate another resident of the property, who gave them permission to enter the garage. Once inside they allegedly discovered a silver-colored pipe and a mason jar containing what appeared to be marijuana.
The missing juvenile allegedly told police Mary Cavins, with assistance from Robert Cavins, “made the pot pipe, and passed it to us to hit,” which the boy’s friend corroborated.
When Mary was asked about the allegation, she allegedly admitted to allowing the boys to smoke marijuana in her presence. She also allegedly stated she too had used the illicit substance that evening too.
Robert also allegedly admitted to police he witnessed and allowed the boys to ingest marijuana that evening as well.
Both Mary and Robert were subsequently arrested on charges of child endangerment, possession of marijuana less than one ounce, being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
COPS: Heroin, meth caught in frequent flyer’s car
A man pulled over for a minor traffic offense last week was arrested on several drug charges after he allegedly tried to throw evidence out his car window, claiming the drugs were from a long time ago and he wanted to get rid of them.
On Aug. 13 at approximately 8:15 p.m., a Street Crimes detective observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Irene and Leslie streets with a license plate light that failed to illuminate the last two letters of the driver’s license plate as required by law.
The officer turned on his lights and sirens to pull the driver, later identified as Ron Hoover, over for the alleged offense when the vehicle slowed and made a right-hand turn onto Darcy Street where it came to a complete stop.
When the detective approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, he noted in an arrest report from the incident, there were two males inside, and that he immediately recognized the driver as Hoover.
Because Hoover did not immediately stop when the officer tried to pull him over and because he has allegedly attempted to destroy or conceal evidence in the past on traffic stops, a second Street Crimes detective went back to where Hoover made the turn onto Darcy Street at which time he allegedly discovered a bag of what appeared to be methamphetamine in the middle of the roadway.
Attached to the bag was also a piece of tin foil containing what officers identified as heroin and burnt residue marks.
Hoover was placed under arrest and he allegedly told officers at the scene that the drugs were from a long time ago and that he forgot they were in the car, so he grabbed them and threw them out of the window.
A search of Hoover’s vehicle also allegedly turned up additional tin foil and straws, which police note are commonly used as drug paraphernalia in the consumption of heroin and meth.
Although the arresting officer noted in Hoover’s arrest report the man was very cooperative during the incident, Hoover was transported from the scene to the Nye County Detention Center to be booked into custody on charges of possession of a schedule one controlled substance methamphetamine, possession of a schedule one controlled substance heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, rear license plate lamp and attempt to destroy/conceal evidence.
COPS: DUI suspect hit fence, drove off
One man was arrested for driving while intoxicated last week after he allegedly hit a homeowner’s fence on Homestead Road before driving off.
A deputy was asked to respond to a hit-and-run private property accident in the 6200 block of Homestead Road around 11:30 on Aug. 15.
When the officer arrived the homeowner explained she heard a loud screeching noise and looked outside to see a blue SUV attempting to turn around, at which time the driver, whom she described as a bald man, hit a fence on her property.
The deputy left and began looking for the suspect SUV, and later discovered it parked in the driveway of a home in the 3000 block of Wall Street.
There was no one inside the vehicle, but one of the SUV’s windows was cracked and the deputy noted in an arrest report an odor of alcohol was coming from within the cabin.
A set of keys were allegedly still in the door when the officer went to make contact with the driver, later identified as Chester Dewitt Fuller.
The deputy noted when the driver, later identified as Chester Dewitt Fuller, answered the door, he smelled of alcohol and has to lean against the door frame to keep steady.
Fuller then reportedly asked the deputy to come in to talk about the matter further, where he allegedly said he had been drinking all night and that he had been driving the blue SUV.
The man was allegedly exhibiting signs of being under the influence of alcohol as the officer continued to speak with him and he was subsequently placed under arrested for DUI before being transported to the Nye County Detention Center to be booked into custody.
COPS: Repeated requests to leave don’t deter trespasser
A man causing a disturbance at a local casino was trespassed from the property Saturday after being asked to leave multiple times.
According to a declaration of arrest in the case, around 3:18 p.m. a deputy was asked to respond to Saddle West Casino for a report of trespassing.
When the office arrived he met with security who explained a male, later identified as Mark Joseph, was causing a disturbance and they wanted him removed from the property.
Staff said they had asked Joseph to leave several times prior to the officer’s arrival, but he allegedly refused.
Police then made contact with Joseph in one of the property’s hotel rooms where they read him a trespass warning, explaining Joseph needed to leave the property.
Joseph allegedly continued to ignore officers’ commands, but after several warnings agreed to be on his way.
Deputies then reportedly saw Joseph talking to patrons coming into Saddle West, and again warned him if he didn’t leave he would be arrested.
The man allegedly refused to leave again and was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the local jai to be booked into custody on a single charge of trespass.
