Suspect involved in second domestic violence charge
A Pahrump man was arrested last week after a domestic violence incident led to him being charged with several felony counts.
Michael Rhine was charged with preliminary counts of domestic violence second offense, battery and contempt of court after he and his live-in girlfriend had a dispute that turned physical, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of East Morin Way on a domestic violence reference.
Upon arrival, the responding officer made contact with Rhine as he stated, “she’s inside,” and opened the door to the residence.
Once inside, the deputy found the victim lying on the ground with a bloodied face, covered in scratches and ripped clothing, according to police. There was also broken glass all over the floor.
During the deputy’s initial investigation of the scene, Rhine began to walk toward the back of the residence and was stopped by the deputy and stated, “I know, I’m going to jail.”
Rhine told the officer that the two had been fighting and advised the deputy that he had a warrant for failure to appear for a previous domestic violence incident.
The officer attempted to speak with the victim but she was too intoxicated to give him a statement regarding the incident, police said. The victim was transported to Desert View Hospital due to her injuries and not being alert and oriented, the sheriff’s office said.
Rhine was arrested and booked into the Nye County Detention Center on the three charges and was being held on $58,125 bond.

A Pahrump man was arrested last week after his child was found wandering around outside his home at night without his knowledge.
Adam Hadland was preliminarily charged with one count of child neglect/endangerment due to not knowing his child’s whereabouts, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office noted that there was an extensive call history to the residence, usually involving child welfare issues.
The sheriff’s office responded to the residence, located on the 4000 block of Turner Boulevard, around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 27, responding to a medial call of a male possibly not breathing or being conscious.
When the responding deputy arrived at the scene, the front door to the residence was locked and after two loud knocks, the door was opened by Hadland, police said.
Upon answering the door, the deputy asked if he knew where his child was and he answered that the child was sleeping in the bedroom but then asked where the child was.
At that point the medical personnel that were on the scene presented Hadland his child and the deputy informed him that he was wandering in the front of the house in a T-shirt, shorts and cowboy boots without socks.
Hadland said that he was sleeping and figured that his child was doing the same.
Hadland’s child stated that it was facetiming its mother on an iPad and took the iPad to Hadland who was sleeping in a chair in the living room.
The child tried to revive Hadland with the child’s mother watching the process via facetime, but the child was unable to to do so. The child then went outside the residence and the mother called the sheriff’s office after seeing the child outside, fearing that Hadland was unresponsive and unaware of the situation his child was in.
Hadland was questioned by the sheriff’s deputy and he was aware of his surroundings but answered basic questions in a slow manner.
When asked if he was on any drugs or alcohol, Hadland stated that he was on two prescription drugs, but had also finished another for a total of three prescriptions.
Another deputy advised the responding officer that he had arrested Hadland before for his child wandering in the roadway in the middle of the night while he was unresponsive.
Hadland was arrested and transported to the Nye County Detention Center without further incident.

Pulled a window scraper on a wheelchair-bound man
A Pahrump man is facing preliminary assault with a deadly weapon charges after a domestic incident.
Charles Morris was taken into custody Tuesday after he allegedly threatened a wheelchair-bound man with a paint scraper that had a six to eight-inch blade, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.
When questioned about the incident, Morris claimed nothing had happened and appeared to be intoxicated, according to police.
The victim said that he was in the entryway of an RV on the property when Morris approached him in a threatening manner with a paint scraper held above his head.
The victim kept Morris at bay using the wheelchair that was in front of him and called the sheriff’s department fearing that his life was in danger, the sheriff’s office stated.
Upon obtaining consent to search Morris’ trailer, deputies found a paint scraper matching the description of the one described by the victim.
Morris was then placed into custody and transported to the Nye County Detention Center without incident.
