Woman arrested for allegedly choking elderly mom over TV password
A Pahrump woman was arrested after an alleged incident revolving around a television led to a daughter assaulting her elderly mother.
Robin D. Walters was taken into custody April 5 by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and charged with preliminary counts of domestic battery with strangulation, elder abuse and two charges of interrupting a 911 call.
The police were dispatched to the home on the 1000 block of Marne Court in reference to a 911 disconnect regarding a possible domestic violence situation.
Upon arriving, the responding officer made contact with Walters, who stated her mother had dementia and called 911 for no reason.
The deputy then interviewed the victim and was allegedly told that Walters hit and grabbed her several times, including choking her to the point where she lost oxygen.
The victim explained that the incident stemmed from her asking Walters for a password for their TV that was recently added.
Police discovered the victim had visible red marks on her neck and both wrists, consistent with her account of the story, police said.
In addition, the victim explained that Walters had also allegedly disconnected all the phones in the house in an attempt to stop her from calling police.
After first denying the incident, Walters eventually confirmed that she was in a physical confrontation with the victim and that she unplugged all the phones except one in her personal bedroom, police said.
Walters was arrested and booked into the Nye County Detention Center on $12,500 bond.
Man arrested after allegedly taking statue from cemetery while on PCP
A local man was arrested last week after he allegedly attempted to steal a statue from a gravesite while on drugs.
James Paul Duett, Pahrump, was arrested on April 7 by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and charged with preliminary felony counts of being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police were dispatched to the 600 block of East Street after reports of a man removing a statue from a gravesite.
When police arrived at the Pahrump Mobile Home Park a witness told them they saw Duett walking into his trailer with a statue.
The responding deputy saw Duett leave the trailer in question and was walking in his direction.
The officer asked Duett where the statue was that he allegedly took from a gravesite, to which Duett allegedly responded that he had it but God took it back from him and he did not know of its whereabouts.
According to the arrest report, Duett then revealed to the office that he had used crack cocaine about an hour prior.
Deputies then spoke with Duett’s roommate, who was in the trailer and he handed the statue to them. The owners of the statue did not press charges against Duett.
Duett then again stated that he used crack cocaine and said he did so for his “temple body,” and he voluntarily submitted a urine sample on the scene, which presumptively tested positive for PCP, law enforcement said.
The responding officer also noted that Duett was making body movements and displayed behavior consistent with someone being under the influence of a controlled substance.
A piece of foil that was allegedly in Duett’s pocket that contained residue at the scene was tested and came up presumptive positive for cocaine.
Duett was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and booked into the Nye County Detention Center, where after a search of his backpack and person police allegedly found several drug paraphernalia items.
He was booked on the two charges and was being held on $5,640 bond.
