Couple arrested after domestic dispute
Both male and female subjects had visible marks on necks
A boyfriend and girlfriend were both arrested Saturday after the couple engaged in a domestic battery dispute.
Robert Todd was driving his pickup truck with his girlfriend Constance Hamrick sitting in the passenger seat when the two got into a verbal altercation. The incident eventually became physical after Hamrick allegedly starting screaming in Todd’s face and he decided to turn the vehicle around and return home.
During the drive, Hamrick started choking Todd’s windpipe, pushing him into the driver’s side door, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.
After Hamrick choked Todd, he reached over and pushed her off by grabbing her by her neck and then got out of the vehicle.
A Nye County Sheriff’s deputy witnessed Todd getting out of the truck at a stop sign, then the vehicle leaving the scene with someone else driving. When questioned, Todd relayed the series of events to him.
The deputy made contact with Hamrick, who he discovered drove off with the truck and she gave similar details to the event, according to police.
The deputy noted that both parties had visible red marks around their necks, and that both refused medical attention.
Upon completion of his initial investigation the deputy arrested both Todd and Hamrick, stating that both parties were at fault, as they both had the opportunity to end the situation, but stayed inside the truck, prolonging the incident.
Todd and Hamrick were taken into custody on one preliminary charge of domestic battery strangulation each.
Woman arrested after alleged child abuse incident
Involved the suspect’s 12-year-old son
A Pahrump woman was arrested last week after an alleged child abuse incident led to various preliminary charges.
Cassandra Debord was taken into custody Thursday and preliminarily charged with child abuse or neglect, domestic battery, possession of one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and was held on $9,280 bond, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.
A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a residence on the 3600 block on Cathi Street for a possible physical domestic occurrence and that they received an open 911 call from the residence. During that call dispatch told the deputy that they could hear arguing and a possible physical domestic incident taking place.
Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a male who said that he and his wife were arguing and that during the alteration she threw household items at him, pushed him and grabbed his arm, police said.
The responding deputy said the male victim showed him a scratch on his arm that he claimed was from his wife, and a bruise the deputy said was two inches in length by one inch.
The male victim said that Debord also threw his cellphone in the front yard when he called 911 during the altercation. The couple’s 12-year-old son was present during the argument and the male victim said that he left with his wife after the incident.
While the deputy was waiting on the male to complete his voluntary statement on the incident, Debord showed up at the scene.
The deputy questioned her about the incident, to which she denied anything physical took place and that the male victim threw his own phone into the front yard of the residence and vacated the premises, which she did as well.
Both Debord and the male asked the deputy to check the inside of the residence for their son, as they both claimed he was with the other.
Debord warned officers that she had a shotgun in the residence as well as a gun underneath her mattress in the bedroom.
When the deputies entered the residence they saw a jar in the living room containing a leafy green substance. The deputies also found a pill bottle in the bedroom also containing a leafy green substance with a scale sitting next to it. Debord claimed to have a medical marijuana card, but she could not produce one at the scene.
The shotgun and handgun that Debord told the deputies were in her residence were also found and they confirmed that the firearms belonged to her.
The juvenile was not located in the residence but deputies discovered that he was at his sister’s house. The juvenile said that he only heard arguing and did not see any fighting and that once his parents left the residence he fled to his sister’s home.
While running a background check on Debord, deputies discovered that she had a prior domestic battery charge resulting from an incident in 2011.
Man arrested for soliciting meth in local bar
Tested positive for several illegal substances
A Pahrump man was arrested after he was reportedly asking bar patrons at a popular local bar for drugs.
Enrique Garcia-Diaz, was arrested Monday by a Nye County Sheriff’s Office deputy and charged with a preliminary count of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Paddy’s Pub Monday evening after receiving calls of a man in his 40’s asking other patrons for drugs.
Upon arrival, one of Paddy’s Pub’s bartenders pointed out Garcia-Diaz as the man in question and he was taken outside for questioning, police said.
The deputy questioned Garcia-Diaz about asking for drugs to which he denied the claims. The suspect then said that the deputy was free to take a blood sample and was open to have all his pockets searched.
The deputy instead requested a urine sample and Garcia-Diaz agreed to provide one. Upon doing so, it was tested and came up positive for buprenorphine, methadone and THC, according to police.
Garcia-Diaz informed the deputy that he had a disease that he took prescription medicine for and that the only drugs he took were the ones prescribed to him.
After gaining consent from Garcia-Diaz, the deputy searched the suspect’s home and obtained his prescription medication. None of Garcia-Diaz’s prescribed meds matched any of the drugs his urine tested positive for, police said.
Garcia-Diaz was then transported to the Nye County Detention Center and was being held on $5,000 bond.
