Man jailed for domestic battery
Milton Craig Miller was jailed on April 28 and faces preliminary charges of domestic battery and intimidate a witness from reporting a crime after deputies with the Nye County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a domestic battery at a residence on South Corbin Street.
When deputies made contact with the victim she reportedly said that the suspect, later identified as Miller, hit her on the left arm and collar bone while she was sleeping. The victim told deputies that Miller then chased her out of the home allegedly yelling that he would “kill her if she called the cops.”
The victim reportedly said she jumped her neighbor’s locked gate and hid under a trailer on the property on Victoria Street until deputies arrived.
Deputies noted in the arrest report that the victim had redness around her right wrist and bicep area but no bruising around the collar bone.
Deputies subsequently learned what type of vehicle Miller was in and made contact with him on Victoria Street where he was subsequently arrested.
Miller was transported to the Nye County Detention Center, booked and held on $8,000 bond.
Tall tales land woman in jail
Cassandra Debord was arrested on April 30 and faces preliminary charges of unlawful false reporting of crimes and obstruction after deputies were dispatched to an address on East Gamebird Road regarding a possible domestic disturbance.
When deputies made contact with the female caller, subsequently identified as Debord, she reportedly said that an unknown male was chasing her on foot carrying a shotgun. Debord reportedly said that the alleged male suspect had been following her and confronted her on Woodchips Road.
Debord explained the alleged suspect had been following her and was allegedly driving an older model Plymouth Barracuda with a female driving. Debord said she pulled her vehicle over and the alleged suspect got out of his vehicle, pointing a shotgun at her and screaming.
Debord reportedly said she heard loud bangs of what sounded like gunshots.
Debord then said the alleged suspect picked something up off the ground and allegedly threw it at her while striking her vehicle with an unknown object.
Another deputy subsequently made contact with the alleged suspect in the McDonald’s parking lot at the intersection of Highway 160 and 372. As the deputy was speaking with the alleged suspect, he reportedly explained he had been working all day and two separate employees were able to confirm this information to the deputy.
As deputies spoke with the alleged suspect he said he did not know anybody with an orange Barracuda and did not own any firearms. The alleged suspect gave consent to search his vehicle and deputies reportedly found no shotguns inside the vehicle.
As deputies were speaking with Debord and attempting to verify her story, she reportedly began changing her story and stating that the alleged suspect never pointed a firearm at her and the orange Barracuda was a truck.
Deputies noticed that Debord began to become frazzled and could not keep her story straight. Debord then stated that she had not spoken to the alleged suspect since March 2014.
The alleged suspect also provided deputies with his phone and showed multiple phone calls and text messages from Debord that had been sent to him the same day as the alleged incident from Debord’s phone.
Debord was subsequently arrested and transported to the jail, booked and held on $1,280 bail.
