Woman jailed for grand larceny
Courtney Rose Nelson was arrested Nov. 12 and charged with burglary, grand larceny, possession of credit card of another without consent, and possession of identifying information of another.
Deputies with the Nye County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible theft at an address on Bourbon Street on Sept. 6 and subsequently made contact with both victims at their home.
When deputies made contact with the victim, she reportedly said she had recently discovered items missing from her home and noticed credit card activity that neither she nor her mother had made.
The victim also explained that another female, identified as Courtney Rose Nelson, visited the residence on Sept. 4.
The victim reportedly explained that Nelson lives in the area and, according to the victim, is an ex-felon.
Deputies subsequently learned through their investigation that Nelson had recently asked if either victim needed assistance and both declined. According to the arrest report, the victim told deputies that she heard Nelson moving around inside the victim’s mother’s bedroom but did not think it was anything to worry about.
Deputies were contacted Sept. 11 by one of the victims who reported that she received a credit card in the mail that she did not apply for.
The victim reportedly supplied deputies with the envelope containing an American Express Serve card with the victim’s name on it but with Nelson’s address.
After deputies contacted American Express, they were reportedly advised that the card company did not know the identity of the person who applied for the card. However, the applicant was able to provide specific, necessary questions in order to obtain the credit card. American Express subsequently canceled the card.
Nelson was arrested on Nov. 12 for unrelated theft charges and possession of stolen property. When deputies made contact with Nelson at the jail, she reportedly denied any involvement in the credit card theft related case.
Woman arrested for possession of drugs
Jennifer Marie Baca and Andres Yepez were arrested on Nov. 12 and charged with a number of drug related offenses after an ongoing investigation by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit found the pair had been selling and trafficking in methamphetamine.
Charges included possession of a controlled substance, sales of a controlled substance, trafficking in a controlled substance — methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and high-level trafficking in methamphetamine, all felonies.
Narcotics investigators began an investigation in August and reportedly made a controlled buy for methamphetamine from Baca on Aug. 27. According to the arrest report, Baca was caught on both video and audio surveillance selling approximately 2.5 grams of methamphetamine for $130.
On four separate occasions Baca and Yepez were reportedly involved with the sales of methamphetamine with sales totaling $2,050. The largest purchase of methamphetamine was for two ounces, totaling $1,100.
The arrest report notes that these controlled buys occurred over the course of several weeks and included several grams of suspected methamphetamine.
After Baca and Yepez delivered the suspected methamphetamine on Nov. 12, deputies arrested and transported the pair to jail.
The suspected methamphetamine weighed approximately 56 grams and tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine.
