Woman jailed for hiding suspected armed robber
Robin Corliss-Martinez was arrested Saturday after police received information regarding the location of fugitive Donald McFadden, who was wanted in connection with the recent robberies of several businesses in Pahrump, at her residence.
Police responded to an address on McMurray to investigate. The arrest report noted that the address is well-known to law enforcement as an active address for known narcotics activities.
McFadden had an active warrant for his arrest in connection with the armed robberies of the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on Oct. 12. McFadden was subsequently arrested too.
When police made contact with Corliss-Martinez and asked if McFadden was inside the residence, she reportedly stated, “Yes, in the back room.” McFadden subsequently walked out, with his hands up and was taken into custody. When Corliss-Martinez was asked if she knew McFadden was a wanted fugitive, she reportedly stated, “Yes.” When asked how long McFadden had been at her residence she told police he had shown up Friday night.
Corliss-Martinez told police she knew he was a wanted fugitive but that she did not call police because she did not have a cell phone. During a subsequent search, police found two cell phones in Corliss-Martinez’s purse.
Corliss-Martinez was charged with habor/conceal a fugitive and booked into the Nye County Detention Center.
Woman arrested after stabbing her child’s father
Octavia Alexandria Elliott was charged with battery domestic violence with deadly weapon, bribe/intimidate to influence testimony and assault with a deadly weapon after her arrest on Oct. 26.
Deputies were called to an address on McGraw Road at 1:30 a.m. regarding a possible stabbing.
According to the arrest report, the victim was subsequently located in a locked bedroom and stated that Elliott stabbed him in the left hand with a knife after an alleged verbal altercation. He had locked himself in the room and Elliot could not get in.
Police observed a bleeding laceration on the hand.
Police subsequently located Elliott at a neighbor’s house and while being escorted to the patrol vehicle, she reportedly began shouting profanities in a perceived intimidating manner.
While en route to the Nye County Detention Center, Elliott reportedly admitted to stabbing the victim, a second victim with a screw driver, and accused the first victim of abusing her for the previous three years. Elliot also said she was “done with him.”
Man jailed for theft
Douglas Allen Varin was jailed on Oct. 29 and charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property after allegedly stealing copper wire from telephone poles in the area of Murphy and Moapa roads.
According to the police report, an employee of Valley Electric Association told police he witnessed a white male stealing the copper wire and leaving the area in a green minivan. Police learned that green minivan was on the side of the road on Highway 372 east of Murphy Road.
The witness subsequently identified Varin as the person he witnessed stealing the copper wire.
When questioned, Varin reportedly told police he acquired the copper wire from telephone poles on Homestead Road which were located on a friend’s property. Varin allowed police to look at the wire in his vehicle and they noted approximately 10 bundles of wire, wire cutters and a long white rope.
The reporting party stated he observed Varin use the white rope to pull the copper wire from the telephone poles.
Varin was booked into the Nye County Detention Center.
