Woman arrested on assault with a deadly weapon charges
A Pahrump woman was arrested last week and charged with various preliminary counts, including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Jerri Chapman was taken into custody by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and charged with assault with a deadly weapon (knife), assault with a deadly weapon (gun), aiming a firearm at a person, and domestic battery for an incident that took place Aug. 26.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 1800 block of South Sycamore in reference to a domestic disturbance.
When the responding deputy arrived at the scene he encountered Chapman, who was outside on her cell phone. Chapman was on the phone with the alleged victim and the deputy spoke with him and advised him to come back to the scene.
Chapman said that the victim was attempting to take feathers from the residence when she confronted the man, taking the feathers away when she claimed that the man pushed her into a closet, the arrest report stated.
Then, Chapman claimed that man pinned her on a mattress that was on the floor and started to choke her, according to the sheriff’s office.
Chapman’s daughter, Christina Smith, who was at the residence and witnessed the alleged incident, stated that she came into the room and saw Chapman and the man fighting on the bed, with Chapman on top of the man “attacking” him, the sheriff’s office said.
Smith said at that point Chapman yelled at the man to leave the house and when the man got up to leave he accidently tripped Chapman onto the ground. Then Smith claimed to have stepped between Chapman and the man and told the man not to hurt Chapman, to which the man said he was “not going to do anything,” when somehow Chapman ran ahead of the man to the kitchen and grabbed a knife from the kitchen.
While the man was attempting to leave, he got in Chapman’s face after she alleged pointed the knife toward his gut. Smith told Chapman that she should have never stayed at the house, when Chapman removed her glasses.
Smith stated that Chapman removed her glasses because she knows when she gets aggressive and gets into a fight she breaks her glasses and she didn’t want to break her glasses this time, the arrest report said.
At that point, Smith said she thought the man was going to strike her so she hit the man. Smith pointed out at that time the man never did strike her, and just held her down, telling Chapman that she needed to control the child. The man claimed that Smith said she was going to “f—k him up” before she hit him. The man also claimed while he had her pinned down that she continued to punch him in the face, the arrest report said.
When the man had the child pinned down, the child claimed that Chapman went to her room and emerged with a 9mm pistol and pointed it at the man, the declaration of arrest stated.
When the man was interviewed about the incident, his story matched up with that of Smith. Photos were also taken of the man’s face, which corroborated with the story that he was struck in the face by the child.
The deputy noted that when he retrieved the handgun, it was loaded with a full clip and one bullet was in the chamber.
Chapman was arrested on the four preliminary charges and transported to the Nye County Detention Center where she was being held on $45,500 bail.
Smith was also arrested on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge due to her role in the alleged incident and was also transported to the detention center where she was being held on $3,000 bail.
