Parole and probation officers allegedly uncovered guns and more than two grams of methamphetamine under couch cushions during an inspection of a probationer’s home earlier this week.
The two officers went to an address in the 400 block of West Wilson Road Monday to inspect the residence of Jessica Cohen, who is on probation for three separate offenses, including a felony.
The officers made contact with Cohen and a male by the name of Adrian Robles inside the home and noted Cohen seemed nervous about their presence.
As one of the officers approached Robles to ask for his ID, he reportedly noticed a spoon with a black residue on it by the man’s leg and a 20-gauge shotgun behind him.
Cohen and Robles were subsequently placed in restraints as the two officers continued their search of Cohen’s home, a power they were granted by a clause in Cohen’s probation terms.
Underneath the couch cushions in the living room, the arrest report notes officers found a black bag containing hypodermic needles and methamphetamine. They also reportedly recovered another bag of methamphetamine, numerous small plastic baggies, a scale and a .22 caliber gun from under the couch cushions as well.
In all, the two bags of alleged methamphetamine reportedly weighed 1.21 grams and 1.22 grams respectively.
Robles and Cohen were placed under arrest for the drug-related items and guns found in the residence and transported to the Nye County Detention Center to be booked into custody.
Robles allegedly told police at the jail he and Cohen had been selling drugs, that the meth belonged to her and that shotgun found in her home, which she was not supposed to have as a convicted felon, was given to her as a gift by a relative.
COPS: Police called on man suspected of heroin overdose
One man was arrested after police were called to a local convenience store for a report of a drug overdose late last week.
On June 6 around 2:15 a.m. Nye County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Coyote Corner gas station on Leslie Street for a report of a male who was possibly overdosing on some kind of controlled substance.
When police arrived, they found a 23-year-old man wearing shorts and no shirt lying down on his back.
The male, identified as James Weaver, was reportedly lethargic and confused telling officers he thought he was at Walmart when asked if he knew where he was.
In an arrest report, it states there were fresh track marks on both Weaver’s arms and when a sergeant on scene asked how many “balloons,” or “dubs” for $20 worth of heroin Weaver had shot up, he allegedly replied just one.
Paramedics were also called to the scene and after a short evaluation of the suspect transported him to the local hospital for treatment.
A deputy on scene subsequently applied for a telephonic search warrant for a blood draw to be conducted on Weaver for evidence of any use of an illicit substance.
The warrant was granted and after Weaver was released from the hospital he was booked into the Nye County Detention Center on a charge of use/under the influence of a controlled substance.
