Desert View Hospital is set to host its first charity golf tournament next month at Mountain Falls Golf Club to benefit the newly created Desert View Hospital Foundation — a nonprofit organization looking to help members of the Pahrump community.
The new foundation, formed under the umbrella of the Rural Healthcare Foundation, will provide scholarships to local students as well as cover select health care costs of residents in need.
“The Desert View Hospital Foundation (under the umbrella of Rural Health Foundation) is a not-for-profit organization providing Pahrump students with scholarships and other scholastic opportunities, as well as residents in need with select healthcare items. All funds raised through the DVH Foundation remain in Pahrump,” DVH CEO Kelly Adams said in a statement.
DVH Spokesperson Meagan Kowalski said the hospital has been working with the Nye County School District to finalize the details of the scholarships and other opportunities it plans to provide for local students.
“The hospital wanted to find a way to give back to the community and the Rural Health Foundation, which is based out of Utah, was established around seven years ago, and so it was easy for us to create a foundation under their umbrella,” she said. “Our main focus is on education. Our CEO Kelly Adams is working with (Nye County School District) Superintendent Dale Norton to figure out criteria for the scholarships and those sorts of things and we hope to implement those sooner rather than later. The nice thing about the foundation is all of the money will stay here in Pahrump. Not a dime of it will go to outside sources.”
Kowalski added that the hospital hopes to begin giving out scholarships this school year.
The charity golf tournament next month will be the first major fundraiser the hospital has held to raise money for the new foundation.
Kowalski said while the annual tournament will likely be the foundation’s major fundraiser each year, they hope to branch out and host other sorts of events in the future as well.
“We’re really excited about the tournament. We’ve been working on this since October,” she said. “We put together a group of people from the community that we could trust to get things done. In my mind failure is not an option. And the community has been really responsive. We sold out all of our sponsorships by the middle of January.”
The tournament is being sponsored by Inspirations Senior Living, Mercy Air, Glen Lerner’s office, Comfort Hospice Care, Amerinet, Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas and Elevate.
So far 90 players have already signed up for the event. The foundation is hoping to have 104 players by the day of the tournament.
Registration for a single player is $80 and $300 for a foursome. That fee includes green fees, golf cart rental, breakfast and lunch.
The event will also feature a raffle with multiple prizes from local businesses, masseuses for golfers before and after play and trophies for the top three finishing teams.
The tournament, which will be a scramble format, is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. March 7.

Those wishing to play in the tournament are encouraged to register before the day of the event, however, registration will remain open until the morning of the tournament.
