One person was transported to a Las Vegas area hospital Monday with head injuries after a motorcycle and sedan collided on State Route 372.
Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Service, Nevada Highway Patrol and Nye County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to the entrance of the Bank of America parking lot for a report of a two-vehicle accident in the westbound lanes of the highway.
According to NHP Trooper Jeremie Elliott, a public information officer for the agency, the motorcycle rider was ejected from his vehicle after he collided with the rear right-side panel of a white Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Camry was reportedly attempting to drive across the highway from the Walgreen’s parking lot to the Bank of America parking lot when the collision occurred.
When first responders arrived on scene, the motorcycle rider, who was wearing a helmet and what appeared to be a Corrections Corporation of America uniform, was assessed for injuries by medical personnel.
They quickly determined the man needed to be taken to the hospital for further care for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries to his head.
He was subsequently transported from the scene of the accident to Desert View Hospital before he was ultimately flown to the trauma center at University Medical Center in Las Vegas by Mercy Air.
The three occupants of the white Camry were also assessed, but denied medical transport from the scene.
Parts of the highway’s westbound traffic lanes near the site of the accident were blocked off as NHP troopers conducted an investigation of the collision.
Elliott said the driver of the Camry was later cited for failing to yield from a private drive. He noted the motorcyclist, who was traveling west-bound on State Route 372 at the time of the collision, had the right of way when the Camry cut across the highway.
