A local woman is recovering from her injuries after she drove her car into a home on Friday.
Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue crews arrived on scene in the gated community of Desert Greens just after noon.
Fire Chief Scott Lewis said the collision caused substantial damage to the home, an additional vehicle and a golf cart on the property.
He noted that crews from Valley Electric Association were also summoned to the scene.
“Upon arrival we found a car well into a structure, where it also hit two additional vehicles,” he said. “One was a golf cart and the other was an automobile. It also took out a power pedestal serving the two structures. It also displaced the ground-mounted power transformer off of its base. There was arcing and a brief moment of visible fire noted by nearby residents.”
Lewis said the sole occupant of the car was transported to Desert View Hospital, as there were no other injuries.
“The driver was transported to a local hospital, but her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening,” he said. “It begs the question of what may have contributed to it but we don’t know yet. There was significant damage to the two vehicles as well as the Valley Electric equipment. With the structure it was pretty much the exterior skirting that was damaged.”
One resident who heard the collision called it the worst thing that has ever happened in the quiet neighborhood, a short distance from Desert View Hospital.
The resident, who chose not to be identified, said the driver was a young female who does not live in the gated community.
“She was very thin and had a lot of tattoos,” he said. “She appeared to be in shock after the crash. That house has only been vacant for a little over a week. The owner moved to Las Vegas. About eight of us were without electricity for the better part of an hour.”
Though the speed limit is 15 miles per hour in Desert Greens, the resident estimates the woman was traveling much faster due to the extensive damage.
Nye County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to an inquiry about the incident by press time on Tuesday.
