DVH Foundation tees up for charity

Despite blustery conditions, event organizers said the first annual Desert View Hospital Foundation charity golf tournament at Mountain Falls last week was a success.

Approximately 90 golfers took part in the inaugural event on March 7, sponsored by Inspirations Senior Living, Mercy Air, Glen Lerner’s office, Comfort Hospice Care, Amerinet, Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas and Elevate, which raised money to support the foundation’s mission to provide scholarships for local students.

The hospital’s charitable foundation was recently formed under the umbrella of the Rural Health Foundation. Its mission is to help the local community by not only providing scholarships to deserving Pahrump students, but helping residents in need with with select health care items as well.

Meagan Kowalski, director of marketing for DVH, said while the foundation will likely host other fundraisers throughout the year, the annual golf tournament will be their major fundraising source to support the foundation’s goals.

This year’s tournament began at 8:30 a.m. with teams of four playing a scramble format.

Despite the windy conditions on the course, players appeared to have a good time as they played through it for a good cause.

At the conclusion of tournament play, the teams were invited back to the Mountain Falls Clubhouse where they were treated to lunch and the opportunity to enter a raffle to win prizes donated by local businesses and organizations.

The top three finishing teams were also awarded trophies at that time as well as custom labeled bottles of wine from the Pahrump Winery.

“The event was a rousing success,” Kowalski said after the event had finished. “We had a great turnout, everyone had a wonderful time and we’re excited about the funds we raised that will provide scholarships for Pahrump students. We look forward to holding golf tournaments for the DVH Foundation for many years to come.”

The DVH Foundation is scheduled to host its second annual charity golf tournament again next year on March 6, 2015.
