As most school-aged children are in the middle of their summer break, heading back to class is probably the furthest thing from their minds, but to ensure all Pahrump area students are ready for the new school year, Desert View Hospital is set to host its annual back to school fair.

In Partnership with NyE Communities Coalition, DVH will host its 2016 Back to School Health Fair July 16 at the hospital from 10 a.m. until noon.

Leading up to the fair, school supply donations are being accepted through July 11 at Desert Views main desk that will be distributed at the fair later this month.

When it comes to getting ready for school, teachers say a pencil or a pen can make all the difference between a student eventually graduating or dropping out, said Michelle Hinds, marketing director for Desert View Hospital. Additionally, children often disconnect because they dont have adequate school supplies they need to learn and achieve.

Children present at the event on July 16 will receive a bag of school supplies (while supplies last) to get them ready for the new school year.

Last year we were able to give school supplies to close to 400 children at the health fair, Hinds said. This year we are hoping to be able to distribute supplies to at least the same, if not more students, but we need the communitys help to make that happen. From pencils to wide-ruled paper, crayons to backpacks, every donation helps.

Parents should arrive early for the event, as in years past the estimated $2,000 worth of donated school supplies were given out within the first hour of the fair.

Aside from the free school supplies, health fair attendees can also get no-cost immunizations, vision screenings, sports physicals and dental screenings.

Various vendors will also be on site with information relative to parents and children, including representatives from the Nye County School District and the transportation department.
