Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Services crews were met with a variety of service calls over the past week.
Fire Chief Scott Lewis said crews were dispatched to Petrack Park on Tuesday, Sept. 5, for an unorthodox rescue assignment, just before noon.
“Upon arrival, crews found a small child who had their leg trapped within a bicycle frame,” Lewis said. “Crews were able to successfully extricate the patient in a timely fashion. There were no injuries reported.”
Later on Tuesday, fire crews were dispatched to a building fire on the 1400 block of East Highway 372, at 5:45 p.m.
“On arrival, crews found a vacant former warehouse-style structure where the fire appeared to originate on the outside,” Lewis noted. “The fire extended to the inside of that structure, which was filled with rubbish and such. There was some damage to the primary framing of that structure. That fire, which was quickly extinguished, is under investigation.”
Ceiling collapses
Roughly six minutes later, fire crews were summoned to the 2500 block of East Calvada Boulevard for a reported structural collapse.
“Upon arrival, crews investigated and found not a structural collapse, but a ceiling collapse on a common second-story hallway which blocked the access or egress to any of the additional second-story apartments,” he said. “The heavy material was quickly removed by rescue companies, where the rescue of the occupants on the second floor, was completed in a timely fashion. There were no injuries reported.”
Multi-vehicle collision
A motor-vehicle collision along North Nevada Highway 160 and Blosser Ranch Road prompted the response of emergency crews just after 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7.
“This was initially believed to be a head-on collision, involving multiple vehicles,” Lewis said. “Upon arrival, crews completed a scene size-up and found that one patient had been briefly entrapped in an overturned vehicle. Bystanders extricated that patient, just prior to the fire department’s arrival. It ended up being an offset head-on collision where three patients were transported to the local hospital.”
Patient entrapped inside vehicle
Roughly two hours later, fire crews responded to a multi-vehicle collision at 8:06 p.m.
“It was reported initially to be a head-on collision at Bell Vista Road and Leslie Street,” Lewis said. “Upon arrival, crews found a patient medically entrapped inside the vehicle. Extrication was completed in a timely fashion and that patient was transported to Desert View Hospital.”
Car destroyed by fire
On Friday, Sept. 8, fire crews were dispatched to a vehicle fire at the intersection of Thousandaire Boulevard and Homestead Road, just before 10 a.m.
“Upon arrival, crews found a well-involved passenger vehicle off of the roadway,” Lewis said. “There were no immediate exposures and crews extinguished the fire without incident. There were no injuries.”
Also on Friday, crews responded to the area of East Mesquite Avenue and Blagg Road for an injury motor vehicle collision just before 11 a.m.
“Upon arrival, the scene assessment revealed that one person was positionally entrapped inside the vehicle,” Lewis said. “Crews extricated that patient without incident, and one patient was transported to the local hospital.”
