A few business changes are happening around the valley including a new gaming opportunity and the opening of the new Dotty’s on S. Highway 160 in the Edwards plaza.
Draft Picks, the former location of Wulfy’s, will soon have gaming. The Nevada Gaming Control Board granted the business a restricted gaming license March 5, but it will not take effect until April 1.
Draft Picks manager Laraine Harper said the business is thrilled. “Actually, the process took less time than we expected. I understand getting a gaming license can take anywhere from a year to a year and a half in some instances.”
Draft Picks was awarded its liquor license in August and Harper said the owners submitted the application for gaming in September 2013.
The company has decided to use Golden Gaming’s route service for the machines which Harper said will be “multi-game and multi-denominational.” Bets will range from 25 cents to $2 on poker, several slot games and keno. “It’s the same format as the old Wulfy’s” she said.
To celebrate, Harper said there will be free food for those playing the machines, and as is the usual practice, beverages will be complimentary.
A few other promotions will be a perk for those playing video poker. Harper said each player who gets a four-of-a-kind playing max bet will get their choice of a bottle of wine, a bottle of liquor or a six-pack of the designated beer.
The promo party begins at 1 p.m.
The new owners of the Best Western complex, which includes Draft Picks and the RV park, also included the long-vacant building sitting in the center of the parking lot.
Several months ago, votes were being solicited from local residents to see what type of venue they would like to see occupy the space. No results were ever announced but the new owners have decided to lease it.
Harper said there is a colaboration with the home office in California and its real estate division to sign a tenant willing to do the work needed to complete the interior of the building. Harper said the owners are seeking a business which complements what is already in the complex. “They want something like a restaurant, retail space or a movie theater — something like that.” She said signage will be going up soon.
Another gaming business has already opened to the public.
Tentatively scheduled to open February 26, the third Dotty’s location at 3610 S. Highway 160, Suite 403 didn’t get the doors open until early March.
Approval for its gaming license was subject to surveillance equipment or mirrors being installed according to the Gaming Control Board Code Enforcement. Once the gaming commission met March 4, Dotty’s was given the go-ahead to open its doors to the public.
Even though the space is much larger than the other two locations here, a portion had to be partitioned off from the main floor and designated as unavailable for use.
The restricted license only permits 15 gaming machines.
