Guardian Park project back on county agenda

A proposal to provide $150,000 for the Guardian Park project if the town of Pahrump donates the land at the fairgrounds property is on the agenda when the Nye County Commission meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday at commissioner’s chambers on the Calvada Eye, 2100 Walt Williams Dr.

In other business, commissioners will discuss the position of director of community development. Darrell Lacy has been serving as interim community development director.

A hearing to show cause why the liquor license for The Dragon’s Cloud Hookah Lounge at 3370 S. Highway 160 shouldn’t be revoked is on the agenda.

Commissioners will consider a bill increasing the minimum number of hotel rooms for a non-restricted gaming license to 100 rooms. They will also consider amending Nye County Code after passage of a new state law regarding motorcyclists attempting to make left turns.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management Tonopah office has invited Nye County to be a cooperating agency in the environmental impact statement for the Gemfield Mine project.

An update is due on the Nevada Land Management Task Force, which was created by the Nevada Legislature to brainstorm ways to transfer land from the BLM to the state.

The updated 2013 Nye County Annual Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy is up for approval to submit to the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration.

Commissioners will consider a resolution creating a fund for the Nye County sales tax increase passed Oct. 1.

A hearing will be set on a bill changing the zoning ordinance governing animals, amending regulations on special condition animals and redefining a residential kennel. Another hearing will be set for a bill requiring applicants receiving a conditional use permit to prove they complied with the conditions.

A federal lands highway agreement for a project delivery plan to reconstruct Main Street in Manhattan is up for approval.

An increase in the county gas tax by one cent per gallon per year for the next five years will be up for discussion when the Nye County Regional Transportation Commission meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the commissioner’s chambers.

The RTC will also consider a right-of-way application with the BLM to extend the old Route 16 to the Front Site Firearms Institute. There is also a discussion scheduled on identifying property to be acquired for a proposed beltway around Pahrump. Board members will also consider recommendations to a master plan steering committee on appropriate streets for off-highway vehicle routes.

A decision is scheduled on repaving Manse Road from Homestead Road to Hafen Ranch Road.
