A man authorities deem a “habitual criminal” is behind bars at the Nye County Detention Center after allegedly assaulting and McDonald’s employee Sept. 20.
Nye County sheriff’s deputies said Jason Arthur Altheide approached the victim in the north parking lot and allegedly struck him.
According the arresting deputy, after the victim fell to the ground, Altheide then allegedly stomped on the man.
As the deputy was interviewing witnesses of the assault, a man who matched the suspect’s description was located a short distance away by another deputy, where the victim positively identified Altheide via a photo.
Deputies said the suspect, who admitted he was at the restaurant, denied assaulting the victim.
Additionally, the deputy who located Altheide, noticed what appeared to be a blood stain on his shoes.
After interviewing more witnesses, Altheide was handcuffed and placed under arrest.
The victim was transported to Desert View Hospital. His current condition is not available.
Video footage of the attack was secured by the store’s manager for authorities to view for their investigation.
Altheide is a repeat felon, according to the district attorney’s office.
Altheide remains in custody at the Nye County Detention Center facing one count of battery causing substantial bodily harm and being a habitual criminal, both felonies.
A criminal complaint was filed in Pahrump Justice Court on Sept. 26, and bail has been set at $50,000.
Altheide, who is still in custody, is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
