Heavy NASCAR traffic expected

Ladies and gentleman, start your engines. Well, before you do that and head to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Southern Nevada’s largest sporting event each year, be prepared for increased traffic to and from the speedway.

The Nevada Department of Transportation cautions motorists to avoid I-15 North at Exit 54 during NASCAR weekend.

The weekend full of racing, featuring Friday’s Stratosphere Pole Day, Saturday’s Boyd Gaming 300 and Sunday’s Kobalt 400, will draw stock car fans from all around the region, which will in turn create the annual traffic nightmare for motorists on Interstate-15.

“We’re expecting heavy traffic delays along Interstate-15 North during NASCAR weekend,” said NDOT spokesman Tony Illia. “We advise taking alternate routes, if possible. However, if travel along Interstate-15 North is unavoidable, then please plan accordingly and allow additional drive time to reach your final destination.”

For traffic reports motorists can tune into KBAD AM-920, who will be providing continuous traffic reports throughout the weekend or log on to www.nvroads.com.
