The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a high wind warning for southern Nye County, central Nye County, western Clark County and Esmerelda County for most of Tuesday.
The warning, which is in effect from 8 a.m. through 11 p.m. Tuesday, is caused by a strong storm moving through the area, which will produce north winds of 40 mph to 50 mph, with 60 mph gusts possible.
Areas included in the warning are Pahrump, Beatty, Amargosa Valley, Goldfield, Silver Peak, Dyer, Indian Springs and Desert Rock.
The National Weather Service warned that winds of this magnitude can cause property damage especially to small objects and temporary structures, as well as displacing tree debris. Another impact of the strong winds will be difficult driving conditions, especially in high-profile vehicles, due to blowing dust and strong crosswinds.
Along with the gusty winds,the temperatures will see a drop, going from a high of 87 in Pahrump Monday, to a high of 73 Wednesday.
A high wind warning means that a hazardous, high-wind event is expected or occurring.
The National Weather Service urges travelers to plan ahead, check road conditions prior to departing, and using caution while traveling. If blowing dust creates low visibility, drivers are cautioned to slow down and use their headlights.
Citizens are also urged to secure any loose items or temporary structures.
