Getting assistance on issues such as Social Security, Medicare and veterans affairs just got a bit simpler for local residents.
Congressman Steven Horsford announced that service representatives from his staff will be hosting regular mobile office hours in Pahrump at Desert View Hospital.
Community Liaison Michael Flores said Horsford wants to reach out more to the people he represents especially in Nevada’s rural communities.
“We wanted to make sure that we are accessible and provide resources to all of the constituents. It’s good to have the mobile office to work with those who have different issues ranging from veteran matters, Social Security and the IRS. We have been able to help a lot of residents get money they were owed from Social Security and also medals to heroes who served in various wars,” he said.
The new program kicked off this week.
Flores said service representatives from Las Vegas will make regular visits to Pahrump.
Horsford’s office is now working on a set schedule where locals will know exactly what particular week the reps will be in town.
“It won’t be every day. We are planning on seeing when we will be visiting Pahrump again. The holiday season is fast approaching and we want to make sure that we make this a regular program. We will be located inside Desert View Hospital. On Tuesday we made our first visit and the case worker had a real good response. She was able to open several cases and help some folks out,” he said.
On Monday, Horsford issued an official press release stating his intention to be more visible to his constituents in the Silver State’s smaller communities.
“My job is to represent everyone in my district. I’m proud to announce that we will be increasing our outreach in Pahrump.”
Flores, meanwhile, said locals may need to provide certain documents pertaining to their particular case.
“When they come in, they will first need to fill out a privacy release form which gives us the legal ability to inquire within an agency on their behalf. If there is any relevant paperwork that they believe would be appropriate to show the service workers, that would be very helpful too. Within the privacy release form, they give us all of the information and also the background information on the case and that’s pretty much all we need,” he said.
Flores also said this new effort is just an expansion of the services Horsford’s office has provided in the past as both a state senator and now a U.S. Congressman representing Nevada.
“We’ve been out to Pahrump a number of times but we have not done a mobile office,” he said.
