A reminder to area motorists: It’s never a good idea to perform a U-turn along Highway 160 at any time of day.
That advice appeared to be lost on a woman who Nevada Highway Patrol said caused a two-vehicle collision just before 3 p.m. on Monday.
No injuries were reported.
NHP Sgt. Carlos Rivera said the rear-end collision occurred near the entrance of the American First National Bank.
“It appears that both vehicles were traveling southbound on Highway 160,” he said. “The red Nissan van was attempting to make a U-turn to go back northbound on 160 and unfortunately she did not see the vehicle behind her. The driver of the pickup truck was an older gentleman. He applied his brakes to avoid the Nissan but couldn’t avoid the collision.”
Rivera also said markings along that stretch of highway should have been an indicator to the driver.
“People should never attempt to make a U-turn on the highway, especially if it’s marked double yellow,” he said. “We just ask people to pay more attention to their driving and be more aware of what’s around them. Unfortunately this is what happens when you’re not familiar with the roadway.”
Northbound traffic along the highway was diverted off the shoulder as crews worked to clear the scene. Rivera noted the driver who caused the collision was cited.
