BACKGROUND: “I spent over 25 years in retail sales as a manager for some of the shops found in the larger casinos on the Las Vegas strip.”
FIRST JOB: “I went to work for $2.85 and hour at Country Kitchen in the 1970s. I bused tables as well. Part of my pay was a free meal.”
YEARS IN BUSINESS: “I contracted myself out when I was 15 using the family’s haying equipment to bale hay for neighboring farmers. In Las Vegas, I was a driving Instructor for the Richard Petty Driving School. Years ago, I was a member of volunteer organizations and since moving here in 2009, I’ve been doing some volunteer work with the Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church.”
PERSONAL: “I’d like to get back into bowling and golf. I’ve been bowling since the 70s. I’m working on getting my CDL so I can drive the shuttle and limousines — move up with the company.
BUSINESS CLIMATE: “I try not to get into local politics but I don’t see any growth here. Other places are offering tax incentives for large companies to move into areas that are as remote as Pahrump. Those places are putting people back to work. Cut them a break and give them time to get on their feet before charging them taxes and impact fees.”
