Local businesses showcase services at Biz Expo

Spring is in the air and with it comes the renewal of festivities around the valley. One in particular, is staged to showcase the business services available here. With gas prices steadily climbing, shopping locally is an asset.

The Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce wants to give the public an opportunity to learn about the businesses calling Pahrump home, and not only let the public know where they are located, but the many options they present to local residents.

The 16th annual Biz Expo is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m., Friday April 25, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 26 in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center. Chamber CEO Mike Dreyer said, “The Nugget has always given back to the community with this event venue and that’s what the Biz Expo is about. We appreciate them.”

He said the event is 50 percent booked at this point with prime location and table space going quickly.

Busineses do have to be chamber members in order to participate. “This is the one event that isn’t open to the public for booth space,” Dreyer said. “We do this for the members in our continuing shop local campaign. A lot of residents don’t understand the services they are looking for are already here and this is a chance for them to save time and money by doing business locally.”

Sometimes service companies aren’t located in the limited area locals consider downtown Pahrump. They are scattered around town, but here nonetheless.

Dreyer said 8 x 6 foot spaces with tables are available for $250 but 8 x 10 foot spaces in prime locations will be $300.

“The business community will be well represented and this is their chance to enhance their business.

There will be about 60 vendors total and Dreyer said most of them will donate a gift certificate, basket or other prize as drawings for door prizes. Each participant will get a raffle ticket as they enter.

He said the event varies from year to year but draws between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors.

For the vendors, setup will begin at noon March 24. Call 727-5800 for additional information.

In other news, the Nevada Gaming Control Board set forth recommendations for a restricted gaming license for the HUBB. The license application is going through Best Bet Products, Inc., a supplier of 90 percent of the independent bars in town.
