A Pahrump man was taken into custody Monday after threatening to blow up the Pahrump post office on Postal Road.
Dwight Erie Orndorff was arrested and charged with committing an act of terrorism and making a threat/false info regarding an act of terrorism, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday at 2:04 p.m. Nye County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of the Pahrump post office in reference to a bomb threat in progress.
For precautionary reasons sheriff’s deputies were positioned at all intersections in proximity of the post office to ensure the safety of citizens.
As deputies and detectives maintained the perimeter, street crime detectives were able to approach the scene and identify Orndorff as the suspect, as the responding detective knew him through past dealings, according to police. Orndorff was then taken into custody without incident.
After being placed into custody, Orndorff apologized for making the alleged bomb threats, stating that he was irritated because his foot hurt and that he was tired of standing in line at the post office.
Witnesses told deputies that Orndorff made comments about blowing up federal buildings and mentioned President Barack Obama’s name, according to police.
Deputies said the witness heard Orndorff say, “I want Obama’s address, I want to surprise visit him. All I need is some C4, I blow everything up, all people here will be dead. I should blow everyone, everything up, just a little C4, all these federal buildings.”
Orndorf did not have any device or weapon at the time of his arrest. Orndorff was transported to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and booked on the pair of charges.
