Emergency responders had to remove a man from his truck this week after he apparently suffered a medical episode behind the wheel, causing him to lose consciousness and his vehicle to stall in the roadway near the intersection of highways 160 and 372.
Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Services was dispatched to the intersection around 8 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a possible motor vehicle accident.
When they arrived, however, Chief Scott Lewis said they discovered there was not an accident, but rather a single vehicle that had stalled on the northbound side of Highway 160.
“It ended up not being a motor vehicle accident. What happened was there was a medical condition that presented and the vehicle stalled in the roadway,” the fire chief explained.
Nye County Sheriff’s deputies were first to arrive on scene and reportedly requested medics also be paged to the area soon after.
Lewis said deputies had to break the driver’s window in order for police and medics to reach the man to help him.
Once deputies and medics were able to get to the driver, they removed him from the vehicle and transported him by ambulance to Desert View Hospital for further care.
Lewis added that although it appeared the driver had suffered from a medical condition, the truck did not strike any other vehicles before it came to a stop.
The northbound side of Highway 160 was shut down in that area for a short time as first responders worked to help the driver and document the scene. The northbound lanes were reopened after police and PVFRS were finished with their investigation and the truck had been moved and roadway cleared of glass.
