A motorcyclist was transported to Desert View Hospital Saturday afternoon after attempting a stunt with another rider approaching from the opposite direction along South Highway 160.
Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Chief Scott Lewis said it appeared both riders were traveling at highway speeds at the time.
“Upon arrival, crews found that two motorcycle groups apparently had been traveling in opposite directions and at some point there was an attempt to make a high five or some kind of hand contact between the opposing motorcyclists,” he said. “As a result, there was an apparent fracture to the left arm of one of the riders. The patient was taken to Desert View Hospital where they ruled out a possible fracture to the upper extremity.”
Lewis said there was no loss of control on any of the motorcycles and it was a gesture of some type between bikes riding in the opposite direction of each other where there is no barrier between Highway 160 running north and south.
Earlier on Saturday, fire crews were dispatched for a motor vehicle rollover on Manse Road between Highway 160 and Hafen Ranch Road.
“Upon arrival, we found a significant high-speed rollover with extensive damage to the vehicle,” Lewis said. “However, the patient who was on scene, declined any medical assistance and was not transported from the scene. They checked for additional occupants but did not find any.”
Early Sunday morning, fire crews were dispatched to the 2300 block of Bridger Street for a report of a structure fire just before 1 a.m.
“Upon their arrival, they found a motorhome located at the rear of the property that appears to be used as a fixed structure,” Lewis said. “There was fire showing and crews made a quick interior attack and knocked down the fire. The bulk of the fire was extinguished prior to the fire department’s arrival by the occupants with a garden hose. The investigation revealed a probable cause of an electrical problem, so it appeared to be accidental.”
Later that afternoon, just after 4 p.m., crews were dispatched to a location along East Street for a dumpster fire.
Crews found a fully-involved trash container which was quickly extinguished.
“Crews investigated but we believe it was some introduction of an open flame to the inside of the container,” Lewis said.
