Nevada motorist killed in wreck along Highway 160 between Pahrump, Las Vegas

A motorist was killed along Nevada Highway 160 early Thursday morning near Mountain Springs, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

The victim was identified as Douglas Baird, 58, of Las Vegas, the NHP said.

Baird was driving a silver 2017 Infiniti QX80 SUV northbound, approaching the community of Mountain Springs at Mile Marker 26, when, for unknown reasons, he failed to maintain his travel lane and entered the left dirt shoulder of the highway, just before 12:30 a.m., the NHP said.

“The driver overcorrected to the right causing the SUV to rotate clockwise,” the release stated. “The SUV traveled across the northbound travel lanes and entered the right dirt shoulder. The SUV overturned in the desert terrain, ejecting the unrestrained male driver, who was pronounced deceased on scene.”

“The crash remains under investigation,” Buratczuk said. “This marks the Nevada Highway Patrol-Southern Command’s 51st fatal crash, resulting in 53 fatalities for 2017. The Nevada Highway Patrol wants to remind all motorists and passengers to buckle up every time they are in a motor vehicle.”

Anyone with additional information regarding the fatal crash is urged to call Buratczuk at 702-533-6808.
