Early voting for the 2018 primary election is underway and more than 2,200 residents have cast their ballots so far.
Candidates now have less than a week left to impress as many citizens as they can before the official primary voting day, Tuesday, June 12.
One major political personage is prepared to use these last few days to their fullest, with Nevada gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt currently in the midst of his “Get Out the Vote” tour.
The tour is taking him all across the state to a total of 28 different locations. Laxalt stopped in Pahrump as part of his 12-day tour, spending an hour with voters at the Nye County Republican Central Committee headquarters on May 31.
“It’s been a real thrill to visit some of Nevada’s local communities during our statewide Get Out The Vote tour, to be able to share my vision for our state’s future with Nevada voters, and to hear from them about what they’re looking for in their next governor,” Laxalt said of his trip.
The local support for the Republican candidate for governor has been enough that Laxalt has expressed his certainty that the community will help secure him a victory.
“The great people of Pahrump have been so supportive and welcoming toward me, and it’s a real honor to be able to spend time here again. I’m encouraged to see that Pahrump is uniting behind my message, and is going to help deliver a big victory for us on June 12,” said Laxalt, the state’s attorney general.
But it is not just Pahrump that Laxalt is counting on, remarking that his Get Out the Vote tour is geared toward creating as much campaign momentum as possible throughout the entire state and he believes his efforts are seeing success.
“All across this state, Nevadans are responding with passion and energy to my vision for better education, a thriving economy and safer neighborhoods,” Laxalt stated. “They know the stakes in this election are high, and they know I’ve got the right priorities for Nevada’s future. I’m so grateful for the incredible support my campaign continues to attract.”
Laxalt is far from the only candidate for Nevada governor, however, and he will have to beat out a wide array of fellow Republicans in order to advance to the November general election. Republican contenders for Nevada’s top political post include Bill Boyd, Stephanie Carlisle, Frederick Conquest, Edward Dundas, Jared Fisher, Stan Lusak and Dan Schwartz.
Democrats in the race for governor this primary election include John Bonaventura, Asheesh Dewan, Chris Giunchigliani, David Jones, Steve Sisolak and Henry Thorns. Whichever candidate triumphs in the Democratic primary will then head to the general election to face off with whoever secures the win in the Republican primary.
Nye County residents have the opportunity to play an important part in determining who will ultimately end up as governor of the Silver State.
Nye County has more than 30,000 registered voters, although this count does include some names that are still in the process of being removed from the list. As of June 4, Nye County Clerk Sam Merlino reported that a total of 2,289 Nye County voters had cast their ballots.
Early voting ends at 6 p.m., Friday, June 8. Voters can head to the Bob Ruud Community Center, 150 N. Highway 160, in Pahrump, to take part in early voting between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. today, Thursday and Friday. Those residing in the Tonopah area can head to the Nye County Clerk’s Office, 101 Radar Road in Tonopah from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Thursday and Friday.
