Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt plans to make a stop in Pahrump as part of “The Laxalt 17” on Nov. 7.
Laxalt is widely expected to announce his candidacy for Nevada’s governor as he is set to launch the tour on Nov. 1 at Brady Industries in Las Vegas. After that, he is going to tour all of the Nevada’s 16 counties, plus Carson City over a one-week span.
The first day of “The Laxalt 17” tour will feature “special announcements” in Las Vegas and the Reno-Sparks area.
“I’m planning on sharing some big news and want you to be one of the first people to hear it,” the statement on Laxalt’s website reads.
The Pahrump event will take place at 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Nye County Republican Party Headquarters at 3370 South Highway 160. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
The tour also includes a second Nye County stop. On Nov. 4, Laxalt and his team are scheduled to appear in Tonopah at Mizpah Hotel Conference Center at 100 N. Main Street. The event will begin at 9:45 a.m. Laxalt will also speak at Dinky Diner at 323 Crook Ave. in Goldfield at 8 a.m. on the same day.
According to the news release that was sent out by his staff, Laxalt during the tour will “offer remarks and speak with local residents at each stop, sharing his vision for Nevada’s next chapter.”
Other candidates
Nevada’s Gov. Brian Sandoval is term-limited, and Laxalt, grandson of Paul Laxalt, a former Nevada governor and former U.S. senator, all but announced his candidacy for the outgoing governor’s seat.
Laxalt’s bid announcement had been delayed following the Las Vegas shooting that left 58 people dead and over 500 injured.
The candidate pool for Nevada governor’s seat has been getting more crowded recently.
On the Democratic side, Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani last week announced her gubernatorial campaign on the steps of the Las Vegas Academy of Arts. She joined her fellow Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak who was the first Democrat to launch his bid last summer.
The primary election is set for June 12, 2018, while the general election will be held on Nov. 6.
On the Republican side, Las Vegas businessman Jared Fisher and state Treasurer Dan Schwartz entered the race. Fisher visited Pahrump twice since announcing his candidacy this year. Most recently, he biked through Pahrump, Amargosa Valley, Beatty, Goldfield and Tonopah as part of his second listening tour that ended on Oct. 21.
A cohort of Republicans including U.S. Sen. Dean Heller, Lieutenant Gov. Mark Hutchison and U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Carson City, have all declined to enter the competitive race.
The winner of the Democratic primary will face off with a candidate that emerges from the Republican primary.
