New home health care business opens in valley

Patient Care Home Health Services just opened in Pahrump and offers speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, medical social workers, certified home health aides, registered nurse, licensed vocational nurses and medical supplies.

The office in Pahrump is a branch office and is located at 1201 S. Highway 160. The home office is in Las Vegas and has been in business for the past six years.

The owner of the business, Moreno de la Rosa Jr., and his family started their first home health care business in California in 1995. That business was run by his father. When de la Rosa’s father retired, the son decided to continue in the field and started it in Las Vegas.

De la Rosa’s background is in accounting, but he learned all aspects of the business from his father. He has been working with his family since he was 21.

This year he decided to expand the business to Pahrump.

“We came to Pahrump because I believe there is a need here because of the demographics of the town,” he said. “There is a lot of elderly here that can use our patient care. I would say that the elderly population is close to 50 percent.”

The company currently has 180 patients in Las Vegas and has a growing clientele in Pahrump.

“We get our referrals from hospitals and doctors’ offices,” de la Rosa said.

The company is still family owned and operated. The new business in Pahrump has recruited all new nurses to deal with the patient load.

“We will be growing and we already have some clients,” de la Rosa said. “I am also recruiting more nurses. We have new nurse from Pahrump that lives here and if we need more there are some from Las Vegas that are willing to make the trip out here.”

One such nurse is Ellen Maborang, who has been in nursing for 50 years.

“This will be part time for me because I also teach at the college,” she said. “I am fully retired and was looking for something to do. I really only stayed retired for a couple of months. I came out of retirement because I want to do something.”

Besides being a registered nurse, Maborang also does marketing and is a patient liaison for Patient Care Home Health Services. “If any problems develop with the patients, I will be able to evaluate what is going on and look at the whole picture,” she said.

According to de la Rosa, this new home health care business means there are now four or five similar companies operating in the valley.

De la Rosa said he believes his company is above the competition because “they give that personal touch to every client.”

“We keep the communication open,” he said. “If they have issues, they can talk to us.”

Every last Friday of the month the company will have a wellness clinic at the senior center and at Inspirations.
