There has been quite a shift of businesses in the small strip mall at the corner of Pahrump Valley and Calvada boulevards, and another new business is ready for customers at that shopping center.
The owner of Karen’s Eye Candy is Karen Triesch, owner of the former All Thngs Beautiful shop on Highway 372. She opened in her new location Feb. 8 and the store features a great selection of artisan-crafted jewelry, among other items. Triesch said she makes the jewelry herself and has been crafting beaded, wearable art for 15 years. “I learned from books and the Internet and I’ve taken classes here. I even took an eight-week jewelry class in Las Vegas.”
She is emphatic about using quality materials. “I only use Swarovski crystals. They are the premier bead maker and I really like the quality.”
Triesch said she makes necklaces, pendants, earrings, bracelets and bracelets for boots as well. Because she is a beader, she has limited beading supplies available. At some point, Triesch will offer classes.
She also carries what she calls, “fancy jewelry display racks.”
As part of the jewelry division, Triesch said she will repair jewelry as long as it doesn’t require soldering. She also carries watch batteries and will change them for you.
Jewelry and jewelry accessories command “about one-third of the store,” she said.
In the other two-thirds, the store has some unique furniture for sale. “Everything but the jewelry is gently loved,” Triesch said. “We have one-of-a-kind pieces.”
Among the furniture pieces is something of interest to those who have trouble getting up from a seated position. “We have a pride chair. It reclines and has heat and vibration built in. The chair will lift you to your feet.” There is a matching love seat and what Triesch calls a “one-and-a-half chair.
Other eclectic items include a five-armed lamp from the 70s and a coffee table that adjusts to change the position horizontally. Collectible plates, crystal and fancy dolls are on display, as are cookie jars and sets of tableware. There are also frames for artwork and artwork already framed.
“Everything here changes. You may come in today and look, but if you come back two days later it will be different. I add items to the store almost every day.”
Karen’s Eye Candy also carries women’s clothing which includes accessories such as scarves, belts, shoes, purses and wallets. “I focus mainly on larger sizes. They start at 14 and go to 4X.” She has shirts and T-shirts, slacks and jeans and jackets.
Her hours are what she calls “crazy.” The store is open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday and Monday. Tuesday the store is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday and Friday it’s from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Triesch said, “I don’t feel that people get out to shop at 10 a.m., but I’m flexible. If someone tells me they came by earlier and I wasn’t open, I’ll adjust my hours.”
