The deadline for the request for qualifications for a Northern Nye County Hospital District executive director has been extended to 5 p.m. today, Aug. 18.
The announcement was made in a Facebook post last week.
Arnold Knightly, Nye County spokesman, said the extension was due to the publishing deadline for ads for the Tonopah Times-Bonanza.
“The next hospital board meeting is Aug. 17, and we will get full updates then,” Knightly said.
The Northern Nye County Hospital District board of trustees requested interest and qualifications for professional services of qualified health care services executive directors in July.
The executive director would assist the board with planning and coordination in bringing more comprehensive health care to the Tonopah area, according to the post.
The announcement came as Tonopah continues to grapple with the lack of emergency room and a full-time doctor. Tonopah currently has primary and specialty health care services that are provided by Renown via telemedicine.
Renown Health, a Reno-based health care network, stepped in in early 2016 after Nye County Regional Medical Center had closed its doors in August 2015 due to financial woes. The hospital has left Tonopah residents more than 100 miles away from the nearest hospitals in Bishop, California and Hawthorne in Nevada’s Mineral County.
