After a couple of days of moisture in the area, the Pahrump Valley will clear out beginning Friday, as moderate winds will prevail ahead of the weekend.
Sustained winds for Friday will be out of the east-southeast at 7 to 14 mph, becoming south-southwest in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts could reach as high as 21 mph.
The winds will persist into the evening with sustained south-southwest winds of 13 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph possible.
Temperatures will be near normal Friday and Saturday, with highs of 87 degrees and 86 degrees respectively, before a cool-down occurs to end the weekend.
A cold front will blow into the valley Sunday into Monday, which will drop the temperatures significantly and bring gusty conditions to town.
“Sunday looks to be the windiest day, with gusts possible up to 40mph,” Barry Pierce, National Weather Service meteorologist said. “Then we have that dip in the temperatures there, as we’ve got a strong cold front coming through.”
The high will top out at 79 degrees Sunday, as the cold front moves into place. With the cold front there is a slight chance of rain with it, but Pierce explained that it’s more likely in the surrounding areas.
“There could be a slight chance of showers, but right now it looks like just around the mountains,” he said. “It will be something to watch as the system gets deeper, we actually could see some precipitation in the valley.”
Monday through Wednesday will remain cooler than average as a high of 77 degrees is expected for the three days. Lows are expected to drop into the low 50s and could even dip into the upper 40s overnight Tuesday and Wednesday.
