Outstanding student loan debt grows for 60-plus group

The 60-plus segment of the U.S. population is the fastest growing segment of the population with outstanding student loan debt, according to the Association of Mature American Citizens.

In fact, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said that older Americans are the fastest growing part of the overall student loan market. The trend is not just because they failed to pay off their own carrying student loans; it is also because a growing number of parents and grandparents are financing their children’s and grandchildren’s college education.

Social Security payout days vary

Social Security beneficiaries who filed for benefits before May 1, 1997 receive their checks on the third day of each month, according to the Association of Mature American Citizens. The rest of are paid on Wednesdays on the second, third and fourth weeks of each month.

If you were born between the 1st and 10th day of the month, you receive your benefits on the second Wednesday. Those born between the 11th and the 20th get their checks on the third Wednesday. Benefits are paid on the fourth Wednesday if you were born after the 20th day of the month.
