Once again, fires and motor vehicle collisions dominated the service calls for local fire crews over the past week.
Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Services Chief Scott Lewis said crews responded to the area of Bell Vista Road and Highway 160 on Aug. 9 for a motor vehicle collision with injuries just before 1 p.m.
“Upon arrival, crews found a three-vehicle accident where one vehicle actually over-rode another vehicle and was physically on top of it,” Lewis said. “There was no entrapment but there were several injured patients. They were subsequently transported to the local hospital.”
That crash, Lewis said, was followed by a grass fire along the 3300 block of North Stephanie Road at 6:01 p.m., where upon arrival, crews found a slow-moving grounds-cover fire with no immediate structure exposures. That fire was quickly contained without incident.
Two-vehicle collisions
Roughly two hours later, fire crews responded to an injury motor vehicle accident along Leslie Street and West Basin Avenue.
Upon arrival, crews found a two-vehicle accident, where two occupants were transported to the local hospital.
At 8:36 p.m., crews responded to another motor vehicle accident with injuries on North Highway 160 at East Blosser Ranch Road.
“Upon arrival, crews found a two-vehicle accident with significant damage to both vehicles,” Lewis said. “There was no entrapment, however one person was transported to the local hospital.”
On Thursday, Aug. 10, fire crews were summoned for a mutual aid assignment on Highway 160 just north of the Tecopa turnoff, just before 3:30 p.m.
“We were dispatched to Clark County for a two-vehicle accident, where apparently the two vehicles were traveling in the same direction northbound into Pahrump,” Lewis noted. “One vehicle struck the other at a high rate of speed. There was significant damage to both vehicles. While there was no entrapment, crews assessed four patients and transported one of them. This was a rear-end accident.”
Motorcyclist down
On Friday, Aug. 11, crews were dispatched to the roundabout at Pahrump Valley Boulevard on Highway 372 for a single vehicle crash at 12:01 p.m.
“Apparently a motorcyclist had lost control while negotiating the roundabout where the rider laid the bike down,” Lewis said. “It appeared that there were injuries. However, the rider remounted the motorcycle and rode off just prior to our arrival. We call that an apparent refusal by action.”
Brush fire
On Sunday, Aug. 13, fire crews were dispatched for a report of a brush fire along the 3100 block of West Scott Avenue just after 9 a.m.
“Upon arrival, crews encountered a moderate-sized, slow-moving grounds cover fire with no immediate structure exposures,” Lewis said. “That fire was quickly contained with no injuries and no extensions.”
Two transported to hospital
On Monday, Aug. 14, Lewis said crews were dispatched for an injury motor vehicle accident along South Barney Street and West Charleston Park.
“Upon arrival, we found a two-vehicle accident with no entrapment,” Lewis said. “Two occupants were subsequently transported to the local hospital.”
Structure fire
On Tuesday morning Aug. 15, fire crews responded to a residence on the 2400 block of West McMurray Street for a reported structure fire just after 7 a.m.
“Upon arrival, crews found a malfunctioning HVAC system,” Lewis said. “There was no direct extension to the structure. Crews then ventilated the structure and continued their investigation. They subsequently cleared the scene without incident.”
