Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue crews were met with a series of emergency service calls last week.
Their busiest day was Wednesday, July 19, where crews responded to numerous service calls within hours of each other.
Fire Chief Scott Lewis said crews were dispatched for a report of a brush fire at the intersection of Oakridge Avenue and Bond Street just after 7 a.m.
“Upon arrival, crews found a brush fire circling the base of a power pole,” Lewis said. “It is thought that the power pole is related to the ignition of the fire. That fire was quickly contained with no extensions and there were no injuries.”
Stovetop fire
Hours later, fire crews were summoned to the 5600 block of North Humboldt Street for a structure fire, just after 10 a.m.
“Upon arrival, crews found a stove-top fire that ignited some of the cabinets above the stove,” Lewis said. “That fire was quickly contained with no further extensions and there were no injuries reported.”
Sheriff’s Auxiliary unit collision
Also on July 19, crews were dispatched to the area of South Woodchips and Wilson roads for an injury motor vehicle accident, involving a marked Nye County Sheriff’s Auxiliary unit and a motorcyclist, just after 2 p.m.
“The motorcycle rider sustained significant injuries which warranted flight,” Lewis said. “Crews transported that patient to Mercy Air Base 21 and that patient was subsequently flown to UMC Trauma in Las Vegas.”
Two transported to hospital
Roughly two hours later fire crews responded to the area of North Blagg and East Bell Vista roads, for a two-vehicle collision.
Upon arrival, crews found a T-bone type collision involving two vehicles where two patients were assessed and transported to Desert View Hospital.
Fender bender
On Saturday, July 22, fire crews were dispatched to the area of Big Five Road and Highway 372 just after 8 a.m., for a motor vehicle collision.
“Upon arrival, crews found a two-vehicle accident where one vehicle was struck in the rear by the second vehicle,” Lewis said. “There were injuries, however, both parties declined medical transport.”
Near-rollover crash
Roughly an hour later at approximately 9:25 am, crews were dispatched for another motor vehicle accident, in the area of Honeysuckle Park.
“While responding, crews were informed that the vehicle had nearly rolled over in the area of Honeysuckle and Dandelion streets,” Lewis said. “Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle that was well off the roadway where all of the tires were flattened. There were reports that the vehicle nearly rolled over but the driver gained control at the last moment. The occupants of the vehicle were shaken up, however they did not go to the hospital.”
Also on Saturday, fire crews were dispatched to the area of Lola Lane and Wilson Road for an injury motor vehicle accident, just before 1 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews found a T-bone type collision with no entrapment. One person was transported a short distance to Desert View Hospital.
