Pahrump could be dreaming of a wet Christmas

As Christmas Day approaches, so does a weather system that will bring cooler temps and a chance of rain on Santa’s big day.

Leading up to the holiday weekend, the area will see comfortable weather with a high temperature of 55 degrees today under partly sunny skies and breezy winds up to 11 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday will start out nice, but as the day progresses, an approaching weather system will bring chances of inclement weather as night falls.

“Some storms will approach Christmas Eve into Christmas Day, it won’t bring a high chance of rain, but there is about a 30 percent chance,” said Chris Outler, National Weather Service meteorologist. “On Christmas Day the high will be around 45 degrees, so it will be quite a bit cooler and there will be some pretty strong winds Friday afternoon and into Saturday,” he said.

The system will move through fairly quickly with chances of rain moving out by Friday afternoon. The low on Christmas night will drop to 26 degrees and with high north winds, conditions are forecast to be blustery.
