The Nye County Sheriff’s Office and officials from the Clark County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death of an inmate housed in the Pahrump Detention Center.
Robert Lynn, 58, was discovered by deputies bleeding from what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury, at noontime on Aug. 10, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
A fellow inmate alerted detention center staff that Lynn was bleeding.
Sheriff’s deputies and medical staff rendered emergency medical aid to Lynn until Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue EMT’s arrived on the scene, authorities said.
“Inmate Lynn was transported by ambulance to Desert View Hospital and was awake, ambulatory and talking at the time of transport from detention,” the release said. “Upon arrival at Desert View Hospital, inmate Lynn was stabilized and was flown by Mercy Air to University Medical Center in Las Vegas for more advanced care.”
Additionally, Nye County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to the detention center where they immediately conducted a preliminary scene investigation pursuant to sheriff’s office policy.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., Lynn was pronounced dead by doctors at University Medical Center.
No additional details regarding the method of Lynn’s self-inflicted, fatal injury were released by the sheriff’s office.
The release also stated that Lynn was in custody on charges of escape, from an incident on March 23, 2017 during which he escaped from the Nye County Detention Center for a matter of minutes before being apprehended.
Sheriff’s office officials noted the news of Lynn’s death was not made public until his next of kin were located and notified.
