It’s a great opportunity for local residents to go back and relive a more innocent time in American culture, as the Pahrump Senior Center hosts its popular “Sock Hop” at the Saddle West Resort from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., on Saturday, June 3.
The event is a fundraiser for the center’s Meals on Wheels program.
Tickets are $10 and must be purchased by 3 p.m Tuesday, May 30.
Site Manager Anne Blankenship-Harris said partiers can enjoy great food, music and socializing.
“The Sock Hop this year includes hamburgers, hot dogs, tater tots, potato salad and much more,” she said. DJ Deanna O’Donnell will provide the entertainment. The contests at the Sock Hop include best Sock Hop outfit, hula hoop contest, and dance-off. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event for $1 each.”
The food list goes on to include chips and dips, ice cream sodas, coffee, iced tea and a cash bar.
Additionally, the sponsors of the Sock Hop are asking the community to support Project 150 by bringing a pair of new socks as a donation. These socks will be available to Pahrump schoolchildren in need.
Project 150 currently serves over 1,500 homeless, displaced, and disadvantaged students at 38 high schools in Southern Nevada, along with four in Reno.
Blankenship-Harris noted the Pahrump Senior Center provides meals for homebound seniors who are unable to cook for themselves, or use the center’s transportation to visit the senior center.
“Most of our seniors have so little income that they cannot afford the suggested amount of $2 per meal,” she said. “We provide and deliver seven meals per week, per person, for more than 125 members of our community. These meals are prepared at the Pahrump Senior Center for the cost of approximately $5 per meal.”
Blankenship-Harris also said anyone can help sponsor the Meals on Wheels program.
“We really need sponsors to help support this program,” she said. “You can help for as little as $54 a month per senior. Your donation is tax-deductible and will feed homebound seniors a home-cooked meal for one month. We are reaching out to the community to help support this very important program.”

The event is hosted by HealthCare Partners, Valley Electric Association, Desert View Hospital, Saddle West Hotel Casino &RV Resort, Nevada Eye Physicians, and the Pahrump Senior Center.
